How do I sign up for Velocity Discover Gold?
There is currently no separate application page. Fill in insteadCustomer Feedback Formand state that you wish to apply for Discover Gold.
There is nowhere to upload a copy of your competitive frequent flyer status. So you can upload them to a photo hosting site and add a link to your application, or email them when Velocity responds and asks for documentation.
How do I keep my Discover Gold status?
Once your account has been upgraded to Discover Gold, the clock will start ticking on a three-month counter, allowing you to earn gold for a full 12 months. All you need to do is earn 80 Tier Points and complete a qualifying leg with a VA flight number.
Earn 80 status credits with a traveler
The easiest way to do this is to fly with Virgin Australia, as they also meet the 'one eligible sector' rule. TheVelocity Vielflieger websiteshows how many Status Points (SC) you receive for your flights. For example, you can earn enough Status Credits by flying:
- AReturn journey in Business Classeverywhere in the VA network (from 110 SC)
- Asingle trip in business classon any flight longer than 751 miles (e.g. Melbourne to Sunshine Coast, from 80 SC)
- Return to Bali with Economy Choicez Sydney (90 SC)
- Three return flights from Sydney to Melbourne in Economy Choice Class(90 SC) dietwo trips in Economy Flex(100 SC)
- Two return flights from Melbourne to Brisbane in Economy Choice Class(80 SC) diethree one-way Economy Flex flights(105 SC)
- Three one-way flights between Sydney and Perth in Economy Choice Class(90 SC) diea return flight on Economy Flex(90 SC)
Please note that the cheapest Economy Lite fares do not count as an Eligible Sector. You should therefore always book in Economy Choice or higher. In addition, you can look forward to a significantly higher number of status credits.

Increase your status balance with Family Pooling
family meetingis a smart and popular way to top up speed points and status credits. As a general rule, if you fly with a qualifying adult family member and/or your children - as long as you all live in the same house and the children are under 18 - you can collect their points and status credits on every flight together!
For example, in Economy Choice mode, you typically need two return flights between Melbourne and Brisbane to earn 80 Status Credits. However, if you're flying with an eligible family member accompanying you, the two of you only need to take a return trip to earn 80 Tier Credits!
Traveling with a partner and two children for the same price? A simple one-way journey from Melbourne to Brisbane is enough to earn 80 Status Credits. You will receive 20 SC and another 60 SC from your family.
Increase your status balance with Flybuys
Are you still missing a few status credits for gold? If you have already completed a qualifying Aviation Sector requirement and have accumulated the majority of your 80 SC, you can purchase the remaining status credits without ever setting foot on an aircraft.
Thanks to the partnership between Velocity and Flybuys, you'll earn Tier Credit for every $100 spent at Coles, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor throughout the month. There is a maximum of 10 status credits per month and you must combine your Flybuys and Velocity memberships.

To sum up
Discover Gold is Velocity Frequent Flyer's latest initiative and offers a useful status challenge for members of many competing airline programs. Receive three months of tier benefits and easy access to full Gold membership with just 80 tier credits and one qualifying segment.
The current offer has no expiry date. You can therefore apply if the three-month performance period coincides with your travel dates. Lounge and airport benefits are available on Virgin Australia and international partner airlines, giving you an enticing glimpse into Gold's life around the world.
